IFAB Rule Changes 2026

These rules are implemented by FIFA for the Outdoor season, and carrying forward into Indoor 2026-2027 and onward.

CAPTAIN'S ONLY

If one player, other than the Captain enters the "Captain - Only Zone” the player should be cautioned. Any incident in which more than one unauthorized player from a team enters the captain-only zone must be reported to the appropriate authorities after the match.

Notice the signal the official makes at 22 seconds of the video. That means Captains Only.

GOALKEEPER 8-SECOND

If the GK holds the ball for more than eight seconds, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team on the side of the field nearest the offense.

PK DOUBLE TOUCH

If accidental, and if a goal is scored, the PK is retaken. 

If accidental, and the kick is missed, an Indirect free Kick to the defending team is awarded.
