Board of Directors

The Board of Directors are the life line of Saskatoon Adult Soccer (SAS). They are the go-to for advice and suggestions when problems or opportunities for improvement arise. The board is relied upon to help provide different perspectives that represent the opinions of our members. Each board member is an expert on their own experience and is an endlessly valuable resource for office staff as we all try to meet the needs of our many teams and players.

As an operational board, the SAS Board of Directors oversee major decisions, helps with regular feedback/questions from the staff, and really drives the continued improvement of the league. Anyone with any experience in the SAS leagues (as a player, team contact, ref, fan, etc.) would be a valuable voice. The board is currently made up of many different backgrounds, and we are always looking for new perspectives to jump on board.

Specific areas of expertise that SAS is looking to include are: finance, law, governance, strategic planning and risk assessment. However, we also encourage people with other competencies, including interest in soccer, to seek nomination.

Commitment as a Volunteer Board Member

To summarize the time commitment of a board member: there are six board meetings a year, as well as the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Other than the board meetings, a board member may have 2 - 5 committee meetings in a year. We do require a majority of Directors to attend each board meeting, although we are aware that not every board member will be able to make every meeting. Outside of meetings, there are email discussions to resolve numerous smaller items that do not require a board meeting. The board and committee meetings are held in-person most often at the Saskatoon Sports Centre but also occasionally at Henk Ruys.

Directors also get involved by volunteering at our two tournaments (January Chills and Just for Kicks), support throughout indoor and outdoor playoffs, Opening Week of each season, sitting on discipline hearings and attending Saskatchewan Soccer Association events like their AGM.

Currently, SAS has seven pre-determined meetings throughout the year. The meetings take place during the week, and their typical range of dates are the following:

1. January 7 - 21: Post AGM Meeting

2. February 24 - March 7: Outdoor Fees Approval

3. April 15 - 18: Indoor Review / Outdoor Alignment

4. June 15 - July 15: Indoor Fees Approval

5: September 16 - 19: Outdoor Review / Indoor Alignment

6. November 12 - 22: Pre-AGM Board Meeting

7. December 9 - 19: AGM

If you have any questions pertaining to the league or board please call the SAS office at (306) 975-3427, or email executivedirector@saskatoonadultsoccer.com. The Executive Director is the representative of the board of directors and is always open to conversations with our players, team contacts and referees.

If you prefer to speak directly with a director, you can also contact the Executive (President, Vice-President, Finance Director) as disclosed above.

For information on nominating someone please see our Board Nominations page.
